Our cameras and lenses in action

Here you will find an overview of the most important cameras and lenses we use at Blickpunkt Lokalsport. This way, you will know right away during your internship which equipment is intended for what purpose.

Canon 200mm f/1.8

The Canon 200mm f/1.8 is a very special telephoto lens with an extremely large aperture. It is ideal for sports, portraits, and low-light situations—with a very soft background.

Focal length: 200mm (full frame), maximum aperture: f/1.8, weight: approx. 3 kg, minimum focus distance: approx. 2.5 m.

The lens is heavy and challenging to handle, but the image quality is exceptional. Anyone who has photographed with it will immediately recognize the look.

Canon 300mm f/2.8

The Canon 300mm f/2.8 is one of the classics in sports photography—for me too. It delivers very sharp images, fast autofocus, and works reliably in almost any weather.

Focal length: 300mm (full frame), aperture: f/2.8, weight: approx. 2.4–2.9 kg, minimum focus distance: approx. 2.0–2.5 m.

For me, it's the “workhorse” on the sideline: perfect for tackles, penalty area scenes, and action across the entire pitch.

Canon 24–70mm f/2.8

The Canon 24–70mm f/2.8 is our essential all-round lens when proximity to the action and flexibility are required. It is primarily used for everything related to the game.

Typical motifs: team photos, cheering directly in front of the camera, the coach's bench, fans, children running onto the field, and detailed shots.

Combined with a longer telephoto lens, the 24–70mm is our go-to lens for sideline shots.

Canon 70–200mm f/2.8

The 70–200mm f/2.8 is our main telephoto zoom lens for capturing the action as it happens. The focal length range is perfect for soccer fields in East Westphalia-Lippe.

You can use it to flexibly capture tackles, goal actions, and scenes at the center line. The f/2.8 aperture helps with floodlights to separate players cleanly from the background.

We often use the 70–200mm for the game and a 24–70mm for scenes directly on the sideline parallel to it.

Canon 1D X Mark II

The Canon 1D X Mark II is a professional full-frame camera designed specifically for sports and action photography. It is very fast, robust, and intended for intensive use.

20.2 megapixels, fast continuous shooting (up to 14 frames per second), multiple autofocus points, and a weatherproof body ensure that you can work reliably even during fast-paced scenes.

For you, this means fast response times, lots of pictures in quick succession, and a camera that can keep up even in the rain and under floodlights.

Canon 1D X

The Canon 1D X is the predecessor to the 1D X Mark II and is also a professional full-frame camera. It is a true classic in sports photography and is used by many as a reliable “workhorse.”

18.1 megapixels, up to 12 frames per second, and a robust, weatherproof housing make it ideal for use on the sidelines.

With it, you can also capture fast movements reliably and take long reports outdoors.
